September 13, 2023, Foxford Hills Golf Club

The sun rose over Foxford Hills Golf Club on Friday, September 13th, casting a golden hue over the meticulously maintained greens and fairways. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for the 14th annual Bro Montana Golf Outing. With clear blue skies, a gentle breeze, and temperatures hovering in the mid-70s, it was the kind of day golfers dream about.

As players arrived, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and friendly competition. Old friends reunited, and new faces were welcomed into the fold. Laughter and camaraderie filled the air, but beneath it all was a palpable competitive spirit. Everyone was eager to showcase their skills and vie for the coveted championship.

Just as the festivities were kicking off, a roar of excitement erupted from the clubhouse. Turning heads and drawing applause, the party bus from Libertyville made a grand entrance. Decked out with music, laughter, and high spirits, the bus transported a lively group of golfers who certainly knew how to make an entrance—and later, an exit. Their arrival set the tone for the day: fun, energetic, and unforgettable. The consensus was clear—the party bus should be a staple at every future outing.

As the tournament unfolded, teams navigated the challenging course, each hole presenting its own set of trials and triumphs. By the end of the day, one team emerged victorious. In an unexpected twist, the winners hailed from Canada! While everyone was gracious in defeat, there was playful banter about our neighbors from the north taking home the trophy. It added an extra layer of friendly rivalry, fueling the competitive spirit for next year’s rematch. (FYI. ChatGPT was nicer than I would have been)

Before the awards were handed out, attendees gathered for a moment that has become a cherished tradition at Foxford Hills. This year’s singing of the U.S. National Anthem was nothing short of spectacular. Voices united in harmony, the rendition was heartfelt and powerful—the best it’s ever been in the 14 years of the Bro Montana Golf Outing. It was a poignant reminder of the unity and shared values that bring everyone together year after year.

Looking Ahead

As the sun set on a perfect day, participants reflected on an outing that combined the best elements of sport, friendship, and tradition. The 14th annual Bro Montana Golf Outing will be remembered for its ideal weather, spirited competition, and memorable moments—especially the grand entrance of the Libertyville party bus and the surprise victory from our Canadian friends.

Plans are already underway for next year’s event, with high expectations and perhaps a few strategies on how to reclaim the title. One thing is certain: the Bro Montana Golf Outing continues to be more than just a golf tournament; it’s a celebration of community and camaraderie that grows stronger each year.

Here’s to unforgettable moments and many more years of friendly competition!

Say goodbye to the Bro Montana Golf Outing being hosted on a Saturday. Yes, I know, it sounds like we’re wondering from our initial vision of creating the foremost golf event in the northern burbs on a lovely “SAFTB” fall day but let’s be honest - we aren’t getting any younger. More and more it seems that skipping out on a day of work for a “golf outing” is an acceptable practice paired with the burden of playing hockey goalie to kids on Saturdays provided all the fuel to move the date to a Friday morning. I firmly believe that half the participants might not even mention the BMGO to their significant others, treating it as another day at the “office” providing ample ability to get home at a reasonable hour on Friday night. Now, you’ll have to govern yourself towards the end of the event, except for the unlucky drunk asshole piggy award winner, you should be able to pull it off cleanly. Hope to see you all out there on Friday, Sept. 2nd, it should be great time to rocket a ball over the 1st hole onto the 9th fairway at Foxford Hills.
